Illustration

I was a science kid growing up, and never studied art in high school. I always considered myself to be incapable of drawing. But in an effort to improve my science communication, I went out of my comfort zone in 2018 and began taking life drawing and graphic design courses through art galleries and OCAD University’s continuing studies program.

Learning how to draw has been one of the most positive developments in my professional and personal life. I discovered new ways of seeing and appreciating the natural world, and am now confident in my ability to visually communicate scientific concepts in my professional work.

I’m a firm believer now that no one is ‘incapable of drawing’, and that with the right environment and teacher anyone can develop their artistic talent. I love how nature sketching provides an additional avenue to get people outside and connecting to their local natural spaces.

I work with dip pen and ink, conté, and Adobe Illustrator.
